Good Care Starts At Home

We know and understand the importance of good preventative care. Part of this includes brushing and flossing your teeth properly. Good dental preventative care is really important to ensure a healthy mouth, including your gums and teeth.

It is important to brush your teeth at least twice daily to help remove plaque and food particles that get stuck to your teeth. It is recommended that you brush your teeth for two minutes (or longer), though most people rush through this time. You need to make sure that you reach every side of each tooth, including the inside and outside. To help keep your breath fresh, you should also brush your tongue. Then, you can begin flossing.

It is recommended by the American Dental Association that you should floss your teeth at least once daily. Flossing is done to remove plaque that gets stuck in between your teeth. It also gets rid of any plaque that your toothbrush missed (or can’t get to)! If you don’t floss, you will have more problems with tartar, cavities, and even gum disease.

Though many people hate to do it, flossing is really necessary. You can use dental floss or even a pick that is specially designed for flossing. Though flossing shouldn’t be painful, it can feel different and awkward so it is important to keep at it. After a few days or weeks, it will become part of your dental routine.

Extractions in Corona, CA

Extractions

An extraction is performed to remove a tooth, whether because of disease, crowding, or damage. When extractions are required, the area around the tooth will be numbed and your dentist will remove the tooth. A small amount of bleeding is normal, as your mouth will replace the removed tooth root by forming a blood clot in the area.

Caring for your mouth after an extraction is very important. Your dentist will outline how you should care for the area of the extraction. It is important to allow your mouth time to heal, so avoid activities like smoking, drinking through a straw, or eating foods that may aggravate the area.

If you experience any complications, like excessive swelling, be sure to call your dentist right away. Your dentist may also recommend pain medication when appropriate. While you can care for your other teeth as normal, be careful not to clean the teeth next to the extraction.

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, visit our office today so we can determine if you need an extraction. Delaying a consultation can worsen the situation and require longer recovery times.

Common Questions

It centers on regular cleanings and exams, checking for early signs of cavities and gum disease, and advice tailored to your habits — brushing, flossing, diet, and grinding. The goal is to catch problems while they are small and inexpensive to fix.
Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and limit sugary drinks and frequent snacking. Even with perfect home care, plaque hardens into tartar that only a professional cleaning can remove, so keep your six-month visits.
Extraction is a last resort — when a tooth is too damaged by decay or injury to restore, or when crowding requires it. The area is numbed completely before removal, and we will explain aftercare and options for replacing the tooth.
For the first days, avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, and foods that can aggravate the area, so the healing blood clot stays in place. We will give you written aftercare instructions, and you should call us right away if you notice excessive swelling or bleeding.
Yes — we are a family practice and kids are welcome. Starting regular visits early builds good habits and keeps small problems from growing up with them.

Gums that bleed when you brush or floss, redness or puffiness along the gumline, persistent bad breath, and gums that look like they are pulling away from the teeth. Caught early, gum disease is usually reversible with cleanings and better home care — so mention these signs at your visit.
Sugary and acidic drinks feed the bacteria that cause cavities and soften enamel, and frequent snacking keeps teeth under constant attack. Water, cheese, and crunchy vegetables are tooth-friendly choices, and drinking water after sweets helps rinse acids away.
